The news came via Twitter and FB that Terry Pratchett died today from final complication with Alzheimers. The news on FB reads:

"It is with immeasurable sadness that we announce that author Sir Terry Pratchett has died.
The world has lost one of its brightest, sharpest minds. Rest in peace Sir Terry Pratchett."

The last post on Twitter said just "The End", with previous post declaring that "Terry took Death’s arm and followed him through the doors and on to the black desert under the endless night."

I can't express the sadness I feel from his death, he was my favorite writer. We have lost another great writer. The only solace we can find is the fact that he will go on living with us thorugh his books.

RIP Sir Terry, you will be missed.

Well, I've been watching Once Upon a Time, and I'm on the third season, and I have to say, I love the show! I have to admit, I've been going around it for a while, my friend recomended it to me a year back but I was always "Mah, it probably just another fairytale turned real kind of series. Boy, I've never been more wrong!
Ok, it is a retelling of the classical tales on which we all (me included) grew up, but it's such a good twist! I mean, they threw in all the possible characters, including ones that aren't really from a fairy tale, but hey, who's counting? The stories so moving and so full of twists and turns and it never becomes boring, and they do such a good job of conecting all the different aspects of the characters lives.
And that what I really want to talk about - the characters. Never mind the story, to me, it's always the characters that decide if I'm gonna get hooked on a movie/book or not.
What I like the most here is the fact that no character is black n' white - they all have their stories, most of the tragic, that prompted them to become what they are (don't get me wrong, I'm not saying a screwed up childhood is a justification for a person becoming a mass murderer). The bad guy aren't really always the ones to blame, and they mostly have their reason for behaving the way they do, and the good guys aren't always the ones your cheering for. For me, writing and playing out a good vilain is much harder (though at the same time mor rewarding) than writing and playing out a good guy, cause they're mostly always black n' white - they come in, save the day, fin. IMO, playing a vilain gives you more space, especially if he/she has some eccentric properties with which you can play. When I was a child, my fav characters in Disney movies were Scar and Hades, because they were just that - a well thought our vilains with some quercs and maybe a attitude problem:) And now, watching Once Upon a Time, I have to say I'm in love with Rumple (but there isn't a force in the 'verse that'll make me go throught the torture of writing his whole name!) and the way Robert Carlyle plays him. His movements, his lines, everything, I keep forgeting that his supposed to be the bad guy! And Regina and Hook are right there behind him. Hell, even Pan's a good one, even if he might be the badest of them all.
On the note of Regina - I think it's wonderfull what they've done with the character. I can't bring myself to hate Regina - quite the contrary, I understand her, and I sometimes feel bad for her. Especially when it comes to her relationship with Henry - I think that's one ungrateful boy. I mean, yes, she's "evil", but for god's sake, she did raise him and cared for him, and he loves a woman he never knew and who gave him up more then the woman who gave him everything. I remember this one line that really pissed me off, when he told her she made everyone believe he was crazy for telling them about his book. Uhh, ok, let's just forget for a moment that that was true and turn to the real word - I think any parent who's kid starts telling everyone they're a fairytale character would first be so proud of their childs imagination, and than, when the kid gets opsesed with it, and starts believing that his mother is the Evil Queen and runs away to some far away town - yeah, you'd be freaked out too, and would probably talk to the kid and if that doesn't work try to find help.
Ok, so the end this - I love the show, and can't wait to see the next episode!

Happy Halloween, everyone! What're your plans for tonight? Going anywhere or just a house party with scary movies? Are you gonna dress up?
Me, I'm going out with a couple of friends, and we're definately gonna dress up! I'm gonna go as a pirate, and I spent the last two days making a paper sword and scabbard.

Portrait series

Well, this has certinaly been an eye-opener for me. After a very, very long time, I have taken up drawing again. I used to draw as a child, and was quite good at it, but then I got a very bad art teacher in later classes of primary school and started hating anything that has to do with drawing, and took up writing instead. In the last year, I have felt quite a nostalgia for drawing, especially since becoming a member here on dA. I have used the many tutorials that people here have made, and started practicing again. There is no need to say what my first atempts looked like:) A couple of times I was ready to give up, but would always return, as I understoond that I had so many ideas for my stories that I never put down on paper, and that are yelling to be expressed. Thus, I started drawing them. At first, there was absolutely no proportion to my drawings, and things such as wrinkles on clothes and shadows were totaly foreign to me:)

Now, I had a new idea for a book I will be publishing here on dA. It's a dark medieval fantasy, but first I needed to draw the characters to make sure they're exactly as I imagine them. The first character (of the three main) is done, and will be submited soon. That's the moment we come to the eye-opening part.

Boy, was he hard to draw! Those of you who can draw a quick character sketch in a couple of minutes are probably rolling your eyes now, but I'm telling you, I've been fighting him from the begining (and vice-versa), as he never came out as I wanted. Now, I'm finally done and happy with him, and would be jumping out of my skin if I wasn't so tired and relieved. But I can't believe I've done it! I'm especially proud of myself for managing to draw a face that actually has an expression (my previous drawing just had a sketch of a face, with no eyes, mouth and nose, as I was never able to get them right). And the wrinkles! Dear God, I will never ever draw a character with a long sleeved tunic! It's a torture!

Well, to end this too loong entry. I'll be starting on a new character probably tomorow.

I wonder if my profesors will understand my reasons for not being ready for exams if I tell them I spent days drawing for a book.

Probably not.

PS A great big thank you to all those great people out there on dA who try their best to help poor beginners such as myself with their tutorials. You people are the best! I couldn't have done it without you!
